Ah = Abert Heijn; one can find this supermarkets’ logo everywhere in the Netherlands - and maybe soon in Germany, as the Ahold Group from Amsterdam, the Dutch retail giant, plans to move into Germany next year and open with stores similar to its domestic AH To Go convenience outlets. In 2012, the first ten shops will open in North Rhine-Westphalia and will be located mainly in busy areas such as railway stations and city centers. The company owns around 3,000 outlets in 12 countries worldwide. Ahold is particularly strong in the USA, where 60% of its net sales of EUR 29.5bn are generated. In addition to Germany, Ahold will endeavor to conquer Belgium as a new market as well. According to the press, approximately  50 supermarkets will open in the latter country over the next five years.
